Bukuttinggi 22.01

Today we decide not to cycle, but to explore this cute town walking. We first look for another place to sleep, because this one is expensive according to local standards and not ok at all. Xinhan told Michel he could get the lonely planet on his new toy (he replaced the stolen smartphone for a real one in Singapore at half the price compared to Belgium) and this way we found a guesthouse run by a German guy for 5 euros a night. The room is basic, but it is on the roof, so we have a terrace and feel that we  are living in a penthouse. In Singapore, thanks to 'warm shower' we had all the luxury we could imagine, so we can live a few days without a shower now.

The food is even better than in Malaysia and cheaper too. We visited the park and it's zoo, the local market and just walked around. People are extremely friendly here. They are muslims and most women have their head covered, but I never had the feeling they judged me because I didn't cover mine. More than once I have been asked by young women to get on a photo with them. With pleasure, since I have been taking plenty of photos of them as well.

Tomorrow we will cycle to a neighbour village where a special flower is blooming right now. We will ask for a guide to find the flowers and stop for an organic coffee that is made from beans that the cats poop out. We both like the atmosphere in this place. Peaceful, tolerant, friendly, just a bit noisy. :-)
